The Acura CD Player Repairs, 6 Disc Changers will
show an error code like E-01 on the radio display when you try to play a CD.
Many times then the cartridges will be stuck and not eject. The changer will
need serviced and the estimate is accurate for this repair.
"When
Willman's Electronics sent me a new changer for my 93 Acura Legend, it was
simple to install. I ordered it by phone and received it in about 5 days.
They set it all up so all I had to do was plug it in, then screw it down.
Took about 10 minutes. It is great! Works perfectly with my factory
stereo" Thanks!" Tom G. Dayton, Ohio |

Single CD Players that were in the 1988-1990 Legends are no

We
do have new Bose speakers, hopefully that is what your putting in there. All
aftermarket speakers are not the correct ohms and will not have Bose quality
sound; also can hurt the Bose amps.
To
determine if it is the speaker that is bad.
Constant
static, even when volume is turned down is not a bad speaker. Also popping when
turning stereo on is not usually the actual speaker. One sign of bad speaker is
on low talking sound; you hear the distortion bumble bee noise that (important)
is in sync with the speaking, not there between words. We are currently seeing
1991-1993’s needing new speakers in the front doors. Of course the 91 and
92’s need to be sure the amp recall has been done, see the dealer. Swapping
the front speakers or rears is a good way to determine if the speaker is bad
before purchasing new ones because they are pricey and not returnable if it
doesn’t fix your problem. The 6 1/2" round door speakers many times will
go bad by warping of the cone. If you see a wave on it then slightly press on
the outer edge of the center cap so the cone goes in and out. Do not press right
in the middle of the center cap or it will dent the cap, so press where the cap
is glued to the cone. As it goes gently in and out you will notice a rubbing
noise from that area. It is supposed to move without rubbing, it is rubbing
because the cone is warped and that affects the middle section under the center
cap. The speaker will need to be replaced in order to sound correct and
clear.

1991 and newer Acura Legend Bose Amplifiers
When we rebuild these amps, we rebuild all 4 speaker amps
in the amp box with upgraded parts, even if your only having trouble with 1
speaker. All repairs use upgraded "grade A"
capacitors/components that meet or exceed military specs for longer life.
Questions we've responded to covering 88-90 Legend LS with no
or low sound.
Q: Is the Bose system in my 89 Legend worth fixing?
A: The system will sound great if rebuilt. The bass will come back, this system
has plenty of bass sound, and the sound will be very good. Everyone that has it
done is pleasantly surprised as to how it sounds.
Q: Shouldn't I just replace the system?
A: To totally replace the system. This is my opinion from other peoples
experiences.
You lose the volume on the dash
You'll have higher theft problem and broken window hassle's
All 4 new speakers have to be rewired to new radio
Your radio won't run new speakers - Bose is different (Preamp level radio)
Won't have the sound that the Bose system provides
Q: Why fix it, this system doesn't sound that
good?
A: If you haven't owned the car for more than 5 years, you wouldn't of ever
heard how good the system is when working right.
Q: Is my amp behind the rear seat or at each
speaker?
A: On a 1988-90 Legend LS you have the amps at each speaker, there isn't an amp
behind the rear seat. If you go into the trunk and look behind the liner, where
the rear speaker is. From below, you will see a black plastic round base of the
speaker that is about 6" across with a green connector (or 2). If it looks
like that, then you have the amp at each speaker and it is not uncommon to have
to rebuild all 4 of them.
Q: What needs to be sent in for repair?
A: The rear speakers are fragile to ship, the paper cone can tear if not
properly packaged. If sending the cone in, cut cardboard the size of the top of
the cone and tape it across the top in order to protect the cone. Or the best
way that most people do that ship them in is take the 4 bolts off from the
bottom of the rear speakers and just send the bottom piece which houses the amp,
that's all we'll need for each of the rears. The fronts can ship as is without
any cone concerns.

**********
You are right on target. The amps are hooked to the speakers, one in each front
door and one on each of the rear speakers. You don't have to take the rear
speakers out if you or your mechanic wants to almost lie in the trunk to
disconnect the amp from bottom side. We only need the bottom round plastic piece
off rear speaker, with the amp inside it. The fronts can be sent as a big
housing that holds the speaker with amp inside. There are removal instructions
on the site at: http://www.willmanselectronics.com/legend.htm
near the bottom of the page. Please be sure to notice the important note if
sending whole rear speaker cone with assembly (how to protect the cone. These
speakers sound awesome once rebuilt.

Subject: 1988-1990 Acura Legend LS (Bose system)
I am going to assume that this is the Legend LS model,
which has the Bose speakers. If that is not true then the rest of what I say
isn't right.
The Acura dealer here in Dallas used to sell 1 of the 4 speakers for 232.00, not
sure of current price because we never buy them. We do repair the Bose speakers
for alot of people that want to have them taken out or take them out themselves
and send them in. It is common problem for the Bose to go out after 10 years,
however they can be repaired and sound great and work good. You can't just
replace them or Circuit City would of did that, you have to use Bose.
The door panels have to be taken loose at the bottom in order to get them out
and the rears are a bit easier. Fronts are not simple to get out but it can be
done, if mechanical and have some basic tools. There are removal tips at the
website http://www.willmanselectronics.com/legend.htm
About the rears - you could actually remove just the bottom piece from the
speaker and never remove the cone by unbolting the 4 1/4" bolts from below,
inside the trunk. We only need that amp; I'd just leave it in the black plastic
housing. Just be careful as you unplug it from the speaker not to pull too hard
so it won't break - people have no problem doing this just know it could happen
if you yank on it. If you do send it the whole rear speaker assembly, just tape
cardboard a crossed it to protect the "expensive to replace" cone.
Front speakers ship easy, they're tough.

Steven,
Yes, the amp is behind the back seat, you can see it from the trunk but not get
it out that way. There are removal instructions on the site at: http://www.willmanselectronics.com/legend.htm
The amp can be rebuilt to sound
great.

Legend Bose speakers torn
Torn speakers (physically damaged) do need to be replaced.
Bad sounding speakers may be an amp problem. If the amp hasn't been worked on,
then it is well time to have it rebuilt. We have been doing many of these from
91-93 Legends. The amp is behind the rear seat, see Acura page for help removing
amp and also speakers. We help with repairs and provide no info on replacing
with aftermarket equipment, someday we may. Most of the time, the speakers
aren't torn and they don't usually need to be replaced. If your speakers
need to be replaced, then you may want to consider new amp and all 4 new
speakers because the front speakers are over $75.00 each (without the
installation) unless you can buy used,.

Yes, you do need to keep factory on the speakers, however most of
>the time it's the amp that goes bad. Many Legend owners have bought high
>priced new speakers and installed them only to find out that they sound or
>no sound just like the older one. Have us check out the amp before buy
>speakers and if the amp is OK, we No Charge for the check out.

Legend LS Amp
All of the amps need to be rebuilt after 6-8 years. When we
get them it here, we verify that they are broken and doing just what you
experience. In your case, we would make sure your rears are out before any
rebuild was started. Once rebuilt, they sound great - like it was designed to.
If broken and we rebuild it - we do the amps to all 4 speakers so it all is
good. hope that helps.

Comments: just wanted to thank you for the expert advice and most
importantly the excellent job repairing my Acura stereo... had the unit back

be sure to pass your website on to others with import car audio problems! thanks

Well my dealer had to admit he was wrong and you were right about
the amp being under the head unit. I think the reason their computers told them
otherwise was because they did not enter the Car's model number, but instead
went by VIN number. When I called another dealer they did the same thing and got
the same results - specifications for an LS and GS model. When they enter Legend
L into the computer it came up with this head unit. So I really appreciate your
expertise and advice in the matter. I am sending the unit to you overnight and
truly hope you can work on it as soon as possible. Just wanted to let you
know... There are a couple of places that I could have sent this stereo to be
repaired, one was even closer to me than you, but you were so helpful and knowledgeable
about the stereo that you really made a great impression. I really respect
someone who knows their business as you do, not to mention you were must more
personable than another company I called. Customer service goes a long
way! I attached a note asking if you can fix the display lights in the
head unit (there is one that is out in mine!). If you can fix these lights I
would be very grateful - having the light annoys the hell out of me! Dan - West
Chester, PA. 1995 Acura Legend L
Thanks for all your help. You were a pleasure to do business
with. I was really happy that you remembered the light that was out in the
radio! The unit sounds better than ever. I'll recommend your business to anyone
with a Bose system. Dan - West Chester, PA. 1995 Acura

Thank you for the great service! You fixed
the problem with hissing coming from the head unit and returned the unit to me

very reasonable price. I couldn't be happier! Brandon - San Francisco 92

All 4 amplifiers, which are attached to each speaker were bad.
The dealerships prices for 4 new ones was over $700.00. Willman's repaired mine
and the total repair and shipping time was less than 2 weeks.
Removal Tips: The web site instructions for removal and replacement are
right on. I got them back today at 5PM and at 7PM they were reinstalled and
sounding great.
Comments: All the reasons for repairing, as listed at this site, are right
on target for me. I don't want an after market system; after all I paid a
premium to get this one when I bought the car! Virgil Ocala, FL

Additional feedback from various customers
WOW!!!
Thanks for being so quick. You are a very respectable business and that is hard
to find these days - especially over the internet. Please know that if we
ever need service for our other car's stereo, you will be the first we look to.

Everybody's had that "too good to be true" notion about offers,
deals and "come-ons," especially on the internet.
Well...Willman's is most assuredly NOT too good to be true; they are true
and they are good. I was impressed from start to finish when I entrusted
my 10-year-old factory-installed automobile CD Changer to their care to
diagnose and remedy, following 3 years of non-use because I couldn't find
anyone to repair it within reasonable cost, and with such ease and
dispatch. I found the answer in Willman's. I e-mailed and spoke personally
to Daryl Willman on several occasions, who made himself available for
consultation and step-by-step progress. The fixed-price estimate is rarely
seen these days, and pre-approval for over-runs provides customer control
at every stage. I will not hesitate to recommend Willman's to anyone
requiring expert analysis and service. Thank you!! Chris Pensacola, FL 1992

First off I'd like to thank you and the great people at Willman's Electronics
for the superb customer service and help dealing with my problem. I was
greatly impressed that you spent the time to check out my unit and not charge
me labor, for which I would have expected to pay. Having pulled the unit and
now replacing it back in the car, I can say that it shouldn't take more that
half an hour to pull or replace the radio.
You were right that there was nothing wrong with the unit, the
problem was a 15 amp fuse in slot 22 of the fuse box next to the steering
column. I know I checked all the fuses once before, but somehow missed that one.
Again your great service is appreciated. Regards, Will - Wisconsin 95 Nissan Maxima
